Frequently Asked Questions

We’re very particular when it comes to making our crisps, and we like to ensure that the crisps we produce are of the upmost quality. To that end we ensure that the person who fries the potato chips is the same person who inspects the potatoes before they’re washed and cut. The master fryer will adjust the size of each batch depending on the type of potato used. Once the potatoes are in the oil, the master fryer constantly adjusts the amount of oil and its temperature to ensure the chips cook evenly, stirring them by hand when required. As you can see, it’s not quite as simple as just pressing a button! If it weren’t for our master fryers, our chips would be the same as all the others. We know it’s our attention to detail that make Burts Potato Chips taste as good as they do.

Burts are available from a selected number of large retailers, independent shops, delis, and wholesalers, some of which you can find on our ‘where to buy page’. We’re also available at pubs, bars and other local locations across the UK, and can also be purchased online via our Amazon store.

Burts Chips are available worldwide in many European countries and countries further afield including China, Australia, Canada and the US. For all international enquiries, please contact trade@burtssnacks.com.

Our potato chips are processed in a nut free factory. Many of our products are also free from gluten and other allergens. If you do have allergies, we list all our ingredients on the back of pack and recommend you check them before enjoying our snacks.

The majority of Burts own-brand potato chips are gluten-free, excluding Burts Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar potato chips and also our Guinness potato chips range. All of Burts Lentil chips are gluten-free, as are Burts Ridges, Popcorn and all other Burts potato chips flavours. However, please note that we handle gluten-containing products in the same areas that gluten-free products are handled. Our process has been accredited by the Gluten Free Certification Programme. The law describes ‘gluten-free’ as a product that contains less than 20mg/kg of gluten. This means that some of the products may contain tiny amounts of residual gluten which should be noted by those who are extremely sensitive. Please see guidance on this at the Food Standards Agency website and if you are in doubt please contact us. If you do have an allergy to Gluten, we list all our ingredients on the back of pack and recommend you check them before enjoying our snacks.

No, all of our Burts snacks are free from MSG, artificial colourings and artificial flavourings.

We’d love to fill our bags to the top with crisps, but unfortunately they’re rather fragile and so would get crushed before you even bought them. We fill our bags in a modified atmosphere to give the crisps some cushioning and to ensure they stay fresh for as long as possible. We weigh every single bag that’s made and ensure that they all deliver the weight printed on the back of the packet.

Yes they are both real people, the fryer is a skilled master fryer who cooks our chips, and the grower is of course the potato farmer who harvests our crop.
